The honest answer: it depends on your cat. But here's what you need to know about their lifespan, safety checks, and why we make them by hand.
What "Handmade" Really Means
Our scallion, ginger, and garlic toys are sewn by hand. Not machine-stitched, not glued together.
No glue. Many toys use adhesive to hold parts together — fast, but not safe. Glue can loosen, can be chewed off, can end up where it shouldn't. Our toys are stitched. Every piece is sewn, not glued.
No hard plastic. Eyes are embroidered, not plastic beads. Noses are stitched, not glued on. There's nothing your cat can bite off and swallow.
Quality materials. 60% cotton, 40% acrylic — more durable than pure cotton, softer than synthetic. Filled with clean EPE pearl cotton, not recycled scraps.
We make them this way for one reason: safety.

How Long Should They Last?
Under normal use, about 2-3 months. But cats are different.
Some cats are gentle — they carry toys, not destroy them. Those toys can last six months or more.
Some cats are rough — they kick, bite, and wrestle. Those toys might show wear in a month.
There's no set rule. But there is one hard rule: when damaged, replace it.
Quick Safety Check (Once a Week)
Two minutes. That's all it takes.
Check the seams. Run your fingers along the stitching. Any loose threads? Any openings?
Squeeze the filling. Does it feel lumpy? Can you feel stuffing coming out?
Check the silvervine. For tanghulu toys, look at the stick. Cracks? Sharp edges? A little splintering is normal. Large breaks mean it's time to go.
When to Throw It Away
Don't hesitate. Toss it if:
-
Seams are open and filling is exposed
-
The toy is torn, showing inner stuffing
-
The silvervine stick is broken with sharp pieces
-
It's stained and can't be cleaned
Your cat's safety matters more than any toy.
What "Good Quality" Actually Means
People say our toys are well-made. They are.
Stronger thread. Tighter stitching. Better fabric. Clean filling. Each one takes more time than a machine-made toy.
But "good quality" doesn't mean "lasts forever."
It means: when it wears out, it wears out safely. No glue to swallow. No plastic bits to choke on. No sudden collapse.
That's the point. Not indestructible. Just safe.

One Last Thing
We make these toys by hand because we care how they're made.
No glue. No hard plastic. Every stitch checked by someone who knows what they're looking for.
But even the best toy has to be replaced eventually. Check it. Clean it. When it's time, let it go.
Your cat will find a new favorite. And the old one? It did its job.
